Birmingham City University (BCU) is one of the more modern universities that the UK has to offer. The university provide a wide variety of specialisms enabling students to choose and concentrate on their chosen area of interest. At BCU, students are given the chance to gain hands-on experience with the option between a year-long or short-term placements. Thus, boosting their employability and adding to their potential in the jobs market.
With Design, Media and a number of other courses that were moved to a single site at Eastside in Birmingham city centre in the last few years, BCU is currently in the process of relocating more of its teaching there. The university sits conveniently in the heart of Birmingham, which means you can easily reach of the rest of the UK and the world via first-rate transport connections and the Birmingham International Airport.
Birmingham as a city is young and vibrant. In fact, it is Europe’s youngest city population, which should come as no surprise because it is home to 65,000 students and many ethnic minorities, making Birmingham a vastly diverse place as far as cultures go.
In all UK universities, there are two types of tuition fees for every course; home (for UK/EU students) and international fees (everyone inapplicable to the other category). Starting from next year, international fees will once again rise in line with inflation but even still, the cost of studying at BCU is cheaper as compared to many other UK universities. For instance, a course that would usually cost £13,000 or more in another university would only cost £12,000 at BCU, amounting to at least £1,000 of savings. A healthy sum that could go into other necessities such as accommodation, food and books.
Speaking of money saving, the low tuition fees is not the only attractive quality to studying at BCU, the university also accepts Third-class honours degree for selected courses, allowing some students exemptions from taking a pre-Master’s course which would piled on an additional amount of cash to the spending before their Master’s even began!
Furthermore, some of BCU’s finance and accounting courses are accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), which appeals to many international students who wish to embark on this particular path.
Apart from ACCA and CIMA, the university also offer professional accreditation with the following:
- BPS (British Psychological Society)
- CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development)
- HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council)
- CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing)
- RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects)
Having achieved an accredited degree from BCU with any of these professional bodies will increase your desirability to employers and help secure your life after BCU. If that’s not enough, many BCU courses also offer internships with leading companies like Microsoft, BBC, Sony and Cartier. We all agree that this opportunity will not only give you the most valuable lessons but also connections with industry insiders that you’re sure to find helpful in the future. Let’s make that dream job come true, shall we?
